Attention New Puppy Owners

Here’s some things you need to know for when your puppy comes home

What you need for your puppy:

Food:

Before your puppy arrives, we recommend grabbing a bag of the food they are on. You can change the food later, but it is good for their tummies to stay on the same food for a bit. The puppies are currently eating Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken and Rice formula. Please be sure to buy this exact food for their first bag.

Other essentials:

Collar, Leash, Food and Water Bowl, Bed, Crate, Exercise Pen

Grooming Essentials:

Metal comb, Large slicker brush

What you need to do to prepare:

  1. When you get a puppy from us, it needs to be seen by a licensed veterinarian for a well check within 3 business days of receiving your puppy for the health guarantee to be valid. Some veterinarians are booked pretty far out, so we recommend calling them as soon as you know when you are receiving your puppy. After having your puppy seen by the vet, take a picture of the receipt and send it to me (Leah, 208-850-5430).

  2. Your puppy will come with one month of free Trupanion Pet insurance. You will be sent a code to activate this from me on the date of puppy pickup. You will also have a packet in your go-home-bag with information on what this insurance covers. It is not required for you to sign up for the insurance, but is something that we offer for our pet parents to help out with any potential emergencies during the first month. If you are wanting to use this insurance, it needs to be activated within 24 hours of receiving your puppy.

  3. You will be emailed a contract the week of receiving your puppy to keep for your records. We will have a copy of the contract for you to sign if you are meeting us in person, or you will need to email a signed copy back to us if your puppy is being flown/transported to you.

  4. All the things you need to know about the puppy’s current eating schedule and other pertinent go home information will be provided in your go-home packet that you will get upon pick up.

  5. To prepare your home: we recommend getting a crate for your puppy, and also having baby gates or an exercise pen that you can place your puppy in when you are not able to supervise them 100%. When you bring home a puppy, it’s like having a toddler. Having a safe place for them to be will ensure your success.
